I would be interested in your opinion on what happens when people die? Is there an after-life, long tunnel, brilliant light, heaven? Or do we die and only when resurection occurs do SOME people live again ie those who believed in God???
Ecclesiastes 9:5 says that "the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing." Then in verse 6 it says "Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanishes;" In other words all their emotions, have perished, because their thinking powers are gone. In Psalm 49:14 concerning humans we are told, at death they are like sheep that are laid in the grave, death will feed on them. Sheep and other animals once dead, stay dead. They don't go anywhere. And that is the way it is for all people. But in verse 15 we are told "But God will redeem my life from the grave" And he is speaking here of being raised from the dead. Job speaks of the resurrection in Job 19:26 "And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God. There is a very interesting passage in 1 Corinthians 15 which is a chapter all about the resurrection of the dead. Read verses 12-14. "But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. Why would Paul say this? The reason is, if Christ hasn't been raised from the dead, then there is no way anyone else will have eternal life at all. In other words as we read in Ecclesiastes 9:5 we have totally perished. We are not alive in any form at all. In 1 Corinthians 15:18 we find "Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost". That means dead without any hope of any form or life. They will not be alive in heaven, and they will not be alive in Hell Fire, because if they were - then all these verses would be wrong. The only way Jesus and other christian believers will have any hope of life after death is through the resurrection from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:23 "But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him" We believe the Bible teaches that after death, we remain in the grave until we are raised to life again.
