Fifteen centuries passed. Adam and Eve's descendants had multiplied. Most
lived very long lives (about 900 years). A big change was about to take
place. Read Genesis 6:1-9:17.
The start of the change is found in chapter 6:3 with the shortening of the
average lifespan.
Chapter 7 introduces 'clean' and 'unclean' animals. In
chapter 9:3 animals are given to Noah and his family for food, but only
certain ones. Details of which animals were considered 'clean', making
them acceptable to God for sacrifices or to be eaten can be found
in Deuteronomy 14.
Noah is called 'a preacher of righteousness' in 2 Peter 2:5. The people
around him, just like the majority of people today, did not listen, change
their ways and turn to God. Only seven others (and all of them Noah's family)
heeded the warning and were saved.
