Twenty-five years after Abraham left Haran to live in Canaan; Isaac, the
promised son, was born. Isaac had two sons, Esau and Jacob. Jacob went to
Paddan Aram to find a wife among his mother's relatives, and on his journey
God appeared to him in a dream. Read Genesis 28:10-15. Later in his
life God repeats the same promise and also changes his name.
Read Genesis 35:9-15.
The change of Jacob's name to Israel shows us how some of the promises were
kept.
We can see that through Abraham, Isaac and Jacob the nation of Israel came
into existance.
History tells us that they became a great nation and we can identify
the land given to them. We can also see from history that Israel's friends
and enemies have been blessed or cursed.
